Sniff and Shift
Freeze-Dried Blue-Lipped Mussels: Dog & Cat Treats
Product details
Freeze-dried mussels for dogs and cats, made from one ingredient: blue-lipped mussels. They are freeze-dried whole in small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and that is the entire recipe.
This is the mussel itself, not an extract pressed into a chew. Each one is small, sized for a quick bite, and we give it 4 of 5 for crunch. It is an odd thing to hand a dog. That is a fair share of the appeal.
Blue mussels for dogs of any size
We list these for adult dogs of all sizes, and any breed. The piece is already small, so a little dog gets the same mussel a big dog does. Cats are in on it too: the size suits a cat, and it is the same bag.
Three ways to feed a mussel
Whole, it is a quick bite. Broken up, one mussel becomes a few small training rewards; it scores 3 of 5 for training value on our scorecard, mid-pack. Crumbled over kibble or a raw meal, it is a topper. Whichever way you go, mussels are rich, so keep the count low.
Sniff and Shift makes these and ships them from Malvern, Pennsylvania, in one size: a 2 ounce bag. If your dog or cat empties a bag on a schedule, a recurring order saves the reordering.

Questions
Are these green lipped mussels?
No. Ours are blue mussels, which are a different species. If the green lipped kind is what you came for, this bag is not it.
How many mussels can a dog have?
One or two at a time for most dogs, kept inside the 10 percent treat guideline. The label lists approximately 85.7 kcal per ounce. More in our mussel guide.
Can cats eat freeze-dried mussels?
Yes. We sell this bag for cats as well as dogs, and the size suits a cat. The label says to feed it as a treat or topper, not as a complete diet.
What is in the bag besides mussels?
Nothing. No additives, no preservatives, no fillers. The ingredient line reads blue-lipped mussels and stops.
Do they need refrigeration?
No. They are shelf stable. Keep the resealed bag somewhere cool and dry.
