Yes. Bearded dragons are daytime basking reptiles and need reliable UVB exposure as part of normal captive care. UVB helps them use vitamin D3 and calcium properly.
What type of UVB should I use?
A quality linear UVB setup is generally preferred because it can provide more even coverage across the basking zone than a small point-source bulb. The correct strength and distance depend on the lamp, fixture, screen top, and enclosure setup.
Can UVB go through glass or plastic?
No. Glass and plastic block useful UVB. Do not place a UVB lamp behind glass or a plastic cover.
How often should UVB bulbs be replaced?
Replacement timing depends on the bulb type and manufacturer. A bulb can still produce visible light even after useful UVB output has declined, so follow the manufacturer's replacement schedule instead of waiting for it to burn out.
Does UVB replace a basking bulb?
No. UVB and heat serve different jobs. A bearded dragon still needs an appropriate basking heat source and temperature gradient.
