A healthy snake normally sheds its skin in one complete or nearly complete piece. Retained patches of skin or retained eye caps can indicate a husbandry problem, especially inadequate humidity or inappropriate temperatures.
What should I check first?
Check enclosure humidity and temperatures with actual gauges, make sure fresh water is available, and provide safe textured surfaces such as appropriate branches or decor that the snake can rub against.
Should I pull stuck shed off?
Do not forcefully peel retained skin or eye caps. The skin and eyes can be injured. Correct the environmental problem and seek advice from a reptile veterinarian when retained shed does not resolve or involves the eyes.
How long does shedding take?
The shedding cycle can take days. The snake's skin often becomes dull and its eyes cloudy before clearing again shortly before the old skin comes off.
