Leopard geckos do best in a relatively dry enclosure. A useful general target is 30–40% relative humidity in the main vivarium, measured with a hygrometer.
Does a leopard gecko need a humid hide?
Yes. Even though the main enclosure is dry, provide a humid hide containing damp moss or another suitable moisture-holding material. This gives the gecko a higher-humidity microclimate to use during shedding without making the entire enclosure wet.
What if the enclosure is too humid?
Check ventilation and wet substrate and avoid keeping the whole enclosure constantly damp. Measure humidity rather than guessing from how the enclosure feels.
