Yes. Land hermit crabs should have access to two separate water sources: dechlorinated fresh water and properly mixed marine saltwater.
Can I use table salt for hermit crab saltwater?
No. Use a marine salt mix intended to reproduce seawater, not table salt or ordinary cooking salt.
Can I use tap water?
Tap water should be treated with an appropriate water conditioner when necessary to remove chlorine or chloramine before it is offered to the crabs or used to mix their saltwater.
How deep should the water dishes be?
The pools should allow the crab to submerge while also providing a safe way to climb back out, such as a textured ramp or other secure exit.
Do I need sponges in the water?
Sponges are not required for drinking and can become dirty if not maintained. Safe pools with easy exits are more important.
